Start a blog in Nepal
Everyone is passionate about something. In order to reveal that passion and show your expertise in Nepal, you can start a blog in Nepal. In my previous post, I talked about blogging in Nepal and its prospect.
Whether you are a student, freelancer or a company, creating a blog has several advantages. In this post, I have talked about the advantages of blogs for an individual or a business. Have patience and read carefully as this article will be longer than 4,500+ words.
There are numerous articles published on how to start a blog from several authors. Even I have created another article on how to start a blog on Bluehost. But, in this article, I am concentrating on how to start a blog in Nepal (strictly).

Things covered in this article:

  • How to start a blog with domain?
  • How to start a blog in Nepal with .com domain?
  • How to install WordPress from Cpanel?
  • Install your first free WordPress theme.
  • Install your first WordPress plugin.
  • Write your first blog post and publish it.
  • Setting up your SEO.
  • Money making tips from your blog.
There are multiple ‘domain names’ and ‘hosting service’ providers in Nepal today and you don’t have to pay in Dollars. Here I have explained some of the web service providers in Nepal along with their comparison.
You can go through any service providers as you wish.
Before I enter into the step by step guide regarding ‘how to start a blog in Nepal’, I want to talk about some primary things that might be helpful to you. Before you start a blog, think about the purpose of your blog. Are you a business or an individual? Are you doing it for passion or doing it for earning?
Since there are two options for you to start a blog in Nepal, you need to be clear about your blogging objective. One option will be starting a ‘’ blog and another will be ‘.com/ .net/ .org’ and many other top-level domains.

Registering a domain in Nepal is free, but you need to purchase hosting. No need to worry, all the providers listed below have hosting plans to fit your objective and traffic requirement. However, there are some drawbacks of domain in terms of traffic and SEO. For instance, if there are Google searches from outside Nepal, then Google will ignore your blog and show the results from other blogs.

Another big demerit is that you need to submit citizenship scanned copy for personal domain and company’s documents for the company domain. You will get the domain name that matches your name in the citizenship certificate.

That means, if your name is Ram Bahadur Limbu, then you will have your domain as ‘’. If you want other names. then first you need to register that name as a company and then apply for domain registration. How disgusting is that? Isn’t it?

It is not so in the case of .com or .net domain. You can get any domain name as per your wish and availability and you just need to have an email address that is valid and an active internet connection.

So, if you want to limit your blog within the country and you are passionate about blogging as your hobby, then go for domain. There are several other options according to your blog type.

For instance, if your blog is an educational one, then you can go for If you are running an organization, then you can have your domain.

However, my advice will not be choosing domain. Other top-level domains will open a door to your blogging career and you can establish your blog as a brand in the future if you do it right. They are internationally recognized and preferred by search engines. .com/ .net and other TLDs add value to your blog, easy to register and SEO friendly.

Do you have a good blog/ domain name in mind? If not, you can refer to this article to get some help.

Let us begin:

For hosting, you can refer to the hosting providers listed below.

Starting a .com blog in Nepal

In order to start a .com blog in Nepal, there are various alternatives to go through. Gone are the days when one used to struggle about coding and making a website live. No need for hiring expensive developers to launch your site.
There are numerous hosting and domain name providers in Nepal today and they offer multiple categories of hosting for an individual blog, business, news portal or an e-commerce website. In this article, I am discussing only the reliable and top hosting and domain name providers in Nepal.
Moreover, all these providers listed below provide you free technical support for setting up your site.
Estimate the bandwidth requirement for your blog or website and choose the plans that suit you best. However, most of the hosting providers provide unmetered bandwidth nowadays.
However, while you choose the plans, don’t go for the cheap ones. Most of the cheap plans are under shared hosting and under shared hosting, you will be sharing the server with multiple other bloggers. Now, that will reduce your bandwidth, storage and also limit the loading speed of your website. This will severely affect your SEO and you won’t be getting enough visitors to your blog.
Trust me, I have tried several shared hosting plans and these are for personal hobby bloggers. If your need is a money-making blog or a money-making news portal, then it needs huge traffic. For that purpose, I always recommend cloud hosting or VPS hosting. In this article, I have discussed hosting. Check it once to learn more and come back again.
Now let’s begin;

#1. WebhostNepal:

WebhostNepal is one of the top hosting providers in Nepal. You can also buy domains from WebhostNepal. It has been serving since 2010 and has hosted more than 2,500 websites and blogs since its establishment.

You need to pay NPR 1,500 for .com, .net, .org and .biz domains if you want to get a domain from WebhostNepal. The domain costs are a bit expensive here in comparison to other service providers, but the hosting plans are cheaper. You can see the pricing of domains here.

a. Shared hosting plan:

The first one is Shared Web Hosting where you will be sharing the hosting server with other bloggers. The Shared hosting packages range from Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 8,000 per year.

The basic web hosting package costs Rs. 1,000 per year, Business web hosting costs you Rs. 2,000 per year, Pro web hosting costs Rs. 4,000 and unlimited web hosting package costs you Rs. 8,000 per year. Under all shared hosting packages, you will be getting a Cpanel control panel and a free SSL certificate. You will be allowed to host a single domain under all packages.
I advise you to purchase a pro web hosting package because you will get 10 GB of disk space and 100 GB monthly bandwidth which is enough to start a blog for beginners. You can also choose the business hosting package for low cost, but you will have storage shortage later as it provides you only 1 GB disk space.

b. Shoutcast Hosting:

The second one is the Shoutcast hosting plan. If you don’t know what Shoutcast hosting is, then here is the answer. Shoutcast hosting is for radio broadcasters and multimedia creators. This type of hosting allows you to create your own online internet radio.
That means, along with having a website, you will be letting your visitors access your multimedia pages and online radio service.

All these packages consist of 1,000 listeners and unlimited bandwidth. However, they differ in disk space and buffer streaming.

c. Reseller hosting:

The third one is reseller hosting. Under this plan, you can start your own hosting business. It allows you to create sub-packages within the allotted Disk Space and Bandwidth of your main Hosting package. You can use WHM (a reseller control panel) to create Individual Custom packages (each with cPanel) and provide them to your clients.
This type of hosting is best for business purposes. If you are already running a blog about websites, reviews, SEO, and other topics related to blogging, then you can also start as a reseller host manager. Also, if you are a web developer, WordPress developer, then you can purchase this plan.

The packages under the reseller hosting plan range from Rs. 8,000 per year for starter package to Rs. 40,000 per year for the platinum package. They all differ in disk space and monthly bandwidth.

d. Cloud hosting:

The fourth plan of hosting from WebhostNepal. This type of hosting is popular nowadays. It is the most reliable hosting plan as you will suffer less website downtime. There are always options/ alternatives to maintain the cloud server. The resources are managed and maintained in multiple servers known as the cloud. If a server is down, then another one fulfills its absence.
This type of hosting is preferred by professional bloggers, online magazines, e-commerce websites, and news websites as it suffers no or less downtime and it can handle a tremendous volume of website traffic and guarantees maximum server uptime.
As a starter, you can spend Rs. 10,000 per year and get 2 CPU cores with 2GB RAM to boost your website’s speed. You can also upgrade to the Business cloud for an additional Rs. 5,000 per year if you are growing. The pro package costs Rs. 20,000 per year and the Enterprise cloud will cost you RS. 25,000 per year. The RAM size and CPU cores increase as you upgrade to the higher plan.
In all the packages, you will get a free SSL certificate, unlimited bandwidth, and Cpanel control panel.

e. Cloud VPS (Virtual Private Server):

This type of hosting provides you the full access to the root and dedicated resources. However, you need some technical know-how to manage this kind of hosting server. But, you can buy Cpanel for your VPS package and manage all applications easily.
VPS also gives you guaranteed resources, so no matter what, the CPU, RAM, hard drive and Bandwidth allocated to your VPS package, will always be available for your applications.
This type of hosting is best suited for professional bloggers with a large volume of traffic and news portals. You can also start an e-commerce website using this package.

The rates start from Rs. 3,000 per month for starter package to platinum package for Rs. 12,000 per month. You can choose according to your needs.

f. Dedicated server:

A dedicated hosting service or dedicated server is a type of Internet hosting in which the client hires an entire server and does not share it with anyone else. This is more flexible than shared hosting and other types of hosting as individuals and organizations have full control over the server/s, including choice of the operating system, hardware, applications, etc.
If you are running an organization, multinational e-commerce website or highly professional blog with millions of traffic per month, then this type of hosting is best suited for you.

This is the most expensive plan among different plans. The cheapest package under this plan starts from Rs. 15,000 per month for a starter package. You can see the full details of the package here.
